“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good,
for His steadfast love endures forever!
Let the redeemed of the LORD say so,
whom He has redeemed from trouble
and gathered in from the lands,
from the east and from the west,
from the north and from the south.”
Psalm 107:1-3
Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from trouble or from the hand of the foe.
Whatever you are going through today, whatever weariness abides in your soul and in your bones, the LORD has greatly pursued you. You may not see the redemption just yet, you may not see the freedom from captivity or the release from the enemy, but He is redeeming you. He is gathering you in from the foreign land you are walking through, and He is hoping that you notice Him and His goodness to you.
I recently read of a pastor who decided to do an experiment. He pretended that he was an atheist for a year. Well, guess what, at the end of the 365 days, he left his faith and became an atheist. The things we decide to focus on and believe are the things we become.
Give thanks to the LORD for He is good. What you are going through may not be good. It may be decidedly hard, and you may want to give up or check out and numb yourself to the difficulty you are walking through, but this does not mean that God has stopped being good. We do not get to define who God is nor do our circumstances define who God is. He is good, all the time, no matter what you are facing.
Not only is He good, but He is love, and His steadfast love endures with you through the trial. He is walking with you to see you to the other side of the very hard thing you are going through.
You may feel alone. You may feel tired and weary and ready to give up. You may be weak and scared. You may not even acknowledge the Lord at times, and seek comfort in the cold numbness of a screen or whatever your drug of choice is. He is with you, gathering you under His wings, protecting you when you are scared, strengthening you in your weariness, and helping you to stay the course.
Do not run away from God in your distress, but come near. He is already with you, waiting to shoulder the load, and shelter you from the storm. He is good. He is love. He is your gathering place. So remember your redemption, who God is, and who you are to Him – His beloved child He has not grown weary of serving.
