My mom got me a lovely new necklace for Mother’s Day. I know usually you get your mom a gift for Mother’s Day, and I did, but this year, she also got me one. Wasn’t that sweet of her?
Well, what she got me was this lovely cross necklace. She got it at Alabama Goods in Homewood, and it was made by Leigh Ann Hurst.
It has quickly become one of my favorite pieces of jewelry. I have always loved little delicate pieces of jewelry contrary to many women. I even wanted a small diamond for my engagement ring, even though my grandmother says it is not small. Besides that the cross is formed using two pieces of silver. A large long piece forms the ring for the necklace to slide into and the long vertical piece of the cross. A second piece forms the horizontal part of the cross and is very small.
I love this because the long vertical piece symbolizes God to me. The small horizontal piece symbolizes me. And every time I wear the necklace I am reminded of how I am to lay on Him, being totally dependent on Him. He holds me up. I am small in comparison.
The Sunday after I decided I was going to write about my cross, Dan Hall preached a sermon with 4 truths for spiritual flight and they go with the cross, so I thought I would include them here too.
- An Eternal Hope. This lifts us up. This hope is a calling.
- An Invaluable Inheritance. This is God reaching down. We are the reward that He gets, what are the reason His son died.
- An Established Authority. This moves us forward. God is our greatest, largest possible power.
- An Undisputed Champion. Nothing can drag us down or behind. He demonstrates His fullness in us.
What would happen if Christians lived as if we actually believed these things? Now I can remember these truths when I wear the cross as well.
