If you read the verses in Matthew about Jesus inviting us to come to him and that He will give us rest, and deep down they do not resonate with you, I think you may be missing part of the Gospel story and what the Gospel really means. There is nothing you have to do to earn the salvation of Jesus and there is nothing you have to live up to after you walk in His Kingdom. There are a lot of “do”s in the Bible, and it is easy to confuse them with a long list of burdens you have to carry to be all that Jesus would want you to be. That is not the Gospel. He accepts you just as you are.
Do you feel like you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders? Then you are not living simply. I have been there, and oh, I know how heavy it feels to carry others problems and your own. Go back and reread this post, “Free from anxiety,” which furthers explains the freedom to rest.
This is a great video explaining what I mean, but I would change one thing. At the end when the girl is placing her bags onto Jesus, I would say that sometimes Jesus comes to us and helps take the bags off so that He can carry them instead.
Simplicity, seeking the Kingdom first, trades weariness for freedom and allows abundant living. <–Click to tweet.
