We are well aware of the new problems we face today in the age of facebook, twitter, blogs, pinterest, and probably many other social media sources I may not use.
As a blogger who publishes works so that others will read on the internet, social media seems vital and necessary, and even this week, God reminded me that I have work to do there. Unfortunately, what can happen is that you end up wasting time on sites such as these instead of using them as a work tool. You can actually begin to lose real life relationships because you are considering the virtual ones. I love that I can see what my friends from the past, present, and future are now doing, but once upon a time, you didn’t have all those things cluttering your mind and demanding your attention. Researchers suspect that social media may actually change the brain, that our brain craves facebook “likes” over time, and while entirely different but computer/internet related, research also says that “internet pornography is just as potent—if not more so—than addictive chemical substances such as cocaine or heroin.”
A good way to simplify your life and set yourself free from social media is to do a fast from them. Cut them off completely for a certain length of time. You will notice after you have some withdrawals that you don’t miss them – that you begin to use your time in different more productive ways.
In this loud noisy world, God is crying out, “Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted in the nations, I will be exalted in the earth” (Ps 46:10).
Step back, step away, from that which does not aid you into seeking first the Kingdom of God, for a period, a season, or forever. <–Click to tweet.
Enter into His presence, into stillness with Him. Often when you regain your constant fellowship and communion with the Lord, your media fast can be broken because you will no longer to crave to be known by others or to know others as much as you are aware that you are fully known and loved by a Holy God and that you can seek to know Him forever.

Great thoughts, Jamie. This is something I struggle with but am getting better at. It is so easy to sit in front of a screen All. Day. Long. And not even realize your day has passed.
Thanks for linking up with Woman to Woman’s Word Filled Wednesday! God bless!
